The Finisar FCLF-8520-3 1000BASE-T SFP is a reliable copper transceiver compatible with Gigabit Ethernet and 1000BASE-T standards, as specified in IEEE Std. 802.3:2005. It adheres to the SFP Multi-Source Agreement (MSA).
This transceiver is part of the “8520” series, which is distinguished by its RxLOS (Receive Loss of Signal) link indication functionality. The RxLOS pin (pin 8 of the SFP-to-host connector) is asserted when the 1000BASE-T link is lost, making it ideal for host systems that require this dedicated link status indicator.
The FCLF-8520-3 uses the Marvell 88E1111 Physical Layer IC (PHY), Rev. B0, to convert between the serial interface and 1000BASE-T interfaces. It supports a case temperature range of 0°C to 85°C. Notably, the 1000BASE-X auto-negotiation is disabled for the 8520 version, and to operate, auto-negotiation should also be disabled in the host system.
For electrical supply, the module consumes a maximum of 1.20W (typical ) and has a maximum current draw of 375 mA, which is higher than a standard SFP (300 mA). The host’s electrical supply must be able to handle these increased demands.
The FCLF-8520-3 can also function as a 10BASE-T and 100BASE-T transceiver after programming over the 2-wire bi-directional serial interface.
